EPA tells companies to cut output as poor air quality predicted
Air quality over much of Taiwan is set to worsen over the weekend.

The Environmental Protection Administration is telling state-run enterprises and major power companies to cut their output. That’s amid predictions that air quality will worsen over the weekend.

Air quality over Taiwan’s west coast, especially the central and southern regions, is expected to fall on Saturday as winds slow in these areas. Local air pollution, plus pollution brought to Taiwan Wednesday by a cold continental air mass, will have no way to disperse.

Local environmental authorities across western Taiwan are also set to respond by carrying out inspections of big polluters, pulling over vehicles on the roads to check whether they meet emissions standards, and investigating places such as construction sites.
