A new association promoting green energy was established on Wednesday. The Taiwan Association of Green Energy Transition (TAGET) aims to promote the use of green energy and to establish a comprehensive commercial system for green energy transactions.
The association says it will work with international partners to establish an accreditation system to promote corporate use of green power in Taiwan.
Last year, TSMC’s purchase of wind power marked a major step forward in this direction. TSMC made the world's largest corporate purchase of green energy. It purchased the entire productive capacity of two Ørsted wind farms, Greater Changhua 2b & 4, from the Danish power company.
The association would like to see Taiwan's commercial renewable energy use soon reach 20 to 30%, and then 70% by 2025.
It says that in the next five years, Taiwan will focus mainly on supplying solar power. It also says that using solar power will not be less affordable than other sources of energy. Green energy also has the important benefits of lower carbon emissions and pollution. TAGET says it aims to upgrade Taiwan’s competitiveness in the global green energy sector.
