Taiwan is set to welcome applications from foreigners seeking medical treatment in Taiwan beginning March 1. That was the word from the Central Epidemic Command Center on Wednesday.
Taiwan closed its doors to foreigners seeking medical treatment on January 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, since Taiwan has contained COVID-19 domestically, it is now ready to reopen to these applications.
Foreigners in need of medical care can apply to the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Patients can also apply to have two persons accompany them, including a spouse, relative, or caregiver. However, applications from those seeking to come to Taiwan for health check-ups and cosmetic surgery will not be accepted.
Those coming to Taiwan for medical care will need to present a negative COVID-19 test taken within three days of their arrival, and also undergo the standard 14-day quarantine.
