The defense ministry says it is fully aware of the transit of a US guided missile destroyer through the Taiwan Strait that took place Wednesday.
In a press release on Thursday, the defense ministry said the Burke-class USS Curtis Wilbur navigated through the strait from north to south. The defense ministry says that the transit was a routine operation.
The US 7th Fleet says the guided missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur conducted a routine Taiwan Strait transit in accordance with international law.
This is the second time that a US destroyer has transited the Taiwan Strait since US President Joe Biden took office in January. Earlier this month, another US destroyer, USS John S. McCain, also passed through the strait.
