Sun Moon Lake in Nantou County is considered one of the most beautiful places to vacation in Taiwan. However, lately with the lack of rain, the water level in the lake has dropped sharply, making visitors do a lot more climbing than they’d expected.
With little rain in recent months, the water level in Sun Moon Lake has dropped to 739 meters, the lowest ever in 20 years. That’s a drop of about 10 meters from the usual water level.
Less water also means that the ramp that connects the pier to the floating platform to get to the ferries is now slanted much more steeply. It went from the usual 30 degrees to 60 degrees. Getting off the boats and walking up the bridge has become somewhat of a challenge
A father breaks out in a sweat after carrying his child in a baby stroller up the steep ramp. Someone else decides to carry a wheelchair up the bridge first before going back to piggyback the person who uses the wheelchair.
The management office said that if the water level continues to fall, lifeboats won’t be able to operate properly if an accident should happen on the lake. The office says the only thing we can do now is to pray for more rain.
