Taiwan continues close cooperation with US: Foreign ministry

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Joanne Ou says that Taiwan will continue its close cooperation with the United States.

Ou’s comments came a day after the Biden administration released its Interim National Security Strategic Guidance plan. This plan makes clear that the US “will support Taiwan, a leading democracy and a critical economic and security partner, in line with longstanding American commitments.”

Ou said the US government has pledged continued support for Taiwan since President Biden took office in January.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s representative to Japan, Frank Hsieh, has been invited to conduct exchanges with a US diplomat in his official residence earlier this week. This is the first time a Taiwanese diplomat has been invited to the residence of a US diplomat since Taipei and Washington severed formal diplomatic ties in 1979.

Joseph Young, the US Chargé d’Affaires ad interim in Tokyo, tweeted Thursday that he invited Hsieh to the Ambassador’s Residence to discuss regional stability, economic prosperity, and stronger people-to-people ties.
