Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has discussed recent Chinese pressure on Taiwan during a virtual meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China.
The alliance was founded last year as a platform for lawmakers from democratic countries to discuss approaches towards China. Members come from 19 national legislatures as well as the European Parliament.
During the meeting, Wu gave an address highlighting Taiwan’s difficult international position and China’s recent ban on imports of Taiwanese pineapples. The foreign ministry says it cannot divulge further details about the meeting because alliance meetings are held behind closed doors.
In a tweet issued after the meeting, the alliance said that Taiwan faces increasing Chinese pressure, and that the alliance hopes to deepen its friendly partnership with Taiwan in the future.
