The foreign ministry says it will closely watch high-level talks between China and the United States next week, the first of their kind under the Biden administration.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and White House national security advisor Jake Sullivan are set to hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and China’s top diplomat, Yang Jiechi, in Alaska on March 18.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou said Thursday that Taiwan and the US have already communicated over the matter, in line with precedent. Ou said the foreign ministry will ask Washington to give Taiwan a briefing after the talks.
At the same time, Ou also thanked Blinken for inviting Taiwan to attend a democracy summit to be held by President Joe Biden, as well as for Washington’s support for Taiwan’s WHO bid.
Ou said Taiwan will continue working closely with the Biden administration on various issues.
