Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua says the global pandemic has highlighted Taiwan’s pivotal role in global supply chains. Her words came during a webinar on Thursday hosted by US business publication Global Atlanta.
Wang says Taiwan’s importance to global trade is most clear in its recent work helping to solve the global shortage of semiconductors. Semiconductors are crucial for manufacturing all kinds of consumer goods, and Taiwan is the world’s largest producer. Wang says the government has worked with chip foundries to raise production capacity and adjust supply schedules.
Taiwan’s economics minister also points to the fact that Google, Microsoft, and 3M have all recently established research centers in Taiwan. She says this shows that Taiwan and the US have complementary industrial structures.
