The foreign ministry on Tuesday called on Taiwanese businesses in Myanmar to take measures to protect themselves from a coup that installed a military regime in the Southeast Asian country.
Violent anti-coup protests took place on Sunday that led to 39 deaths. A number of factories were set on fire in Myanmar’s biggest city, Yangon, and one of the affected factories has Taiwanese investors and employees.
Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said flying Taiwan’s national flag is a good way to protect Taiwanese companies there. The foreign ministry also suggested putting up a sign that reads “Taiwan Company” in Burmese text in order to avoid being misidentified as a Chinese company.
