Over the past three years, Taiwan’s first recycled water plant, Feng Shan Water Resource Center, has been the lifeline for the Taiwan-based China Steel Corporation (CSC).
The water the CSC bought is quite expensive, but that doesn’t bother the steelmaker at all. That’s because it’s of good quality and Taiwan is facing a water shortage crisis. Without enough water, local industries will suffer great losses.
Feng Shan Water Resource Center is located in the southern city of Kaohsiung. It is the only water plant that remains in operation in Taiwan. The center’s director Wang Wei-hsiu said waste water is filtered three times and disinfected.
Kaohsiung City Government official Tsai Cheng-fang says China Steel Corporation (CSC) bought 14.8 million tons of recycled water from the plant per year. The deal has boosted the city government’s revenues by NT$30 million every year.
Tsai also says another water resource center under construction is expected to supply local industries with 33,000 tons of recycled water every day by the end of this year. This hopefully will ease the water shortage crisis.
