Premier Su Tseng-chang says that authorities must carefully evaluate the pandemic situation in countries seeking to form COVID-19 travel bubbles with Taiwan. Su was speaking Thursday during a Cabinet meeting.
Taiwan has so far agreed to just one COVID-19 travel bubble. This will allow travel between Taiwan and the Pacific island nation of Palau, which is so far completely free of COVID-19. This travel bubble agreement is set to take effect in April.
However, the premier said that a number of other countries have expressed interest in forming their own travel bubbles with Taiwan, echoing an earlier statement from Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung. Lin recently told lawmakers that these countries include Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and especially, Singapore.
