Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Joanne Ou has thanked the US for bringing up the issue of Taiwan during a meeting with Chinese officials Friday. This was the first in-person meeting between top US and Chinese officials of the Biden administration.
Ou said the US gave a report to Taiwan prior to the meeting. She said the US has also promised that it will give a post-meeting update. She said this is a display of trust and goodwill between the two sides. She said the foreign ministry will continue to work closely with the Biden Administration to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
Meanwhile, Premier Su Tseng-chang says that China’s recent moves not only caused regional instability but are worrying the democratic nations of the world. Su said the US is not only urging China to restrain itself, but also plans to join forces with countries that share the values of freedom and democracy to work towards maintaining world peace and regional stability.
