The foreign ministry says China’s retaliatory sanctions against ten EU citizens and four organizations are indicative of its authoritarianism. That’s the word from Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou on Tuesday.
The people on the sanctions list include several pro-Taiwan EU parliamentarians and the Alliance of Democracies Foundation.
China says the move is in retaliation of the EU imposing sanctions on four Chinese officials over human rights abuses in Xinjiang.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou urged China to remove the sanctions, improve its human rights record and respect universal values such as freedom and democracy.
