After two decades, the Wei Chuan Dragons professional baseball team is back in the game. To celebrate the occasion, the organizers decided to set a Guinness Book record in the opening game last week.
After 21 years, the professional baseball team Wei Chuan Dragons is back in the Chinese Professional Baseball League. To mark the occasion, the Taipei City government spent US$2.8 million to renovate the Tianmu Baseball Stadium using man made turf, the first in Taiwan.
Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je was there to give an opening speech. He, along with 312 baseball players who have been with the professional league for at least a year, threw the first balls to start off the game. The move broke the previous Guinness Book record of the largest number of players pitching the first ball at the opening of a game. The last world record was made ten years ago with only 222 pitchers in Japan.
Much to the delight of Dragons’ faithful fans, the Dragons beat Fubon Guardians 3-0 in their first game back in the league.
