US State Department Spokesperson Ned Price says that the US is committed to deepening relations with Taiwan and will consider further high-level exchanges with Taiwan.
Price was responding Thursday to reporters’ questions about a recent state visit to Taiwan by the president of the Pacific island nation of Palau. In particular, media interest focused on the inclusion of the US ambassador to Palau in the delegation.
Price said Taiwan is a leader in democracy, and is an important economic and security partner to the US. He said the US will continue to deal with Taiwan in a manner consistent with the One China policy that advances unofficial US-Taiwan ties.
