The foreign ministry is thanking the international community for the outpouring of support following last Friday’s train crash, which killed dozens and injured more than two hundred others.
The condolences have come from countries all around the world – from allied nations in the Pacific and Latin America, and from partners like the United States and the European Union. Hundreds of foreign dignitaries including the Pope and the Dalai Lama have also shared their condolences.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou thanked the international community on behalf of the people of Taiwan.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministry has again stressed the need for Taiwan to bolster its disaster prevention and rescue capabilities. Officials from Taiwan and the United States are set to meet this week to share their experiences in dealing with major disasters. The goal is to enhance cooperative efforts in the area of disaster prevention and relief.
