VIDEO: World Junior Record holder Eddie Wang trains for Olympics
Eddie Wang

The Tokyo Olympics begins on July 23. Taiwan’s athletes are training hard to represent the country in the games.  Today we look at one of the two Taiwanese swimmers who will be competing, Eddie Wang.

Nineteen-year-old Eddie Wan will compete for Taiwan in the Tokyo Olympics, which is just 100 days away.  Last year, he broke the World Junior record for the 200m butterfly with a time of 1:50.79 at the International Swimming League in Budapest, Hungary.

Is he nervous? Wang says that actually, he’s not under a lot of pressure. In fact the closer it gets to the race, the more excited he is. It’s his first Olympics so he just wants to give his best.

His coach, Lee Cheng-feng, says there are three to four trainers beside him helping him as he trains. They watch how his body is reacting and recovering while analyzing his progress.

Wang also has to do special core-strengthening exercises.  Wang says that the trainers emphasize strengthening the four limbs, but especially the core. He says he does 30 minutes of core-strengthening exercises before he begins to swim.

When the Tokyo Olympics begins on July 23, Eddie Wang will be the one to watch.
