Transportation minister to step down in wake of deadly rail accident
Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung is resigning with effect from April 20.

Transportation Minister Lin Chia-lung is set to resign his post on April 20. That’s in the wake of the deadly April 2 rail accident that claimed 49 lives. The accident happened when an express train hit a crane truck that had fallen onto the track.

Lin proposed resigning the day after the accident, and tendered his resignation in writing to the Cabinet on April 7. However, the Cabinet held off on accepting his resignation until the aftermath of the accident was dealt with. Premier Su Tseng-chang finally accepted Lin’s resignation after a meeting with him on April 14.

The Cabinet has yet to decide on a replacement.
