President Tsai Ing-wen says that Taiwan is willing to work with like-minded countries to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Tsai was speaking Thursday while meeting with former US Senator Chris Dodd and his delegation.
The delegation is the first that US President Joe Biden has sent to Taiwan since he took office in January. President Tsai called its arrival a signal of continuing partnership.
Tsai said that China’s recent incursions into Taiwan’s air space and waters have not only changed the status quo in the Indo-Pacific region but have also posed a threat to regional peace and stability. Tsai said that Taiwan is willing to work with the United States and others to thwart China’s aggressive and provocative acts.
Dodd said that his trip is meant to reaffirm Washington’s pledges to Taiwan, including its commitment to ensuring Taiwan’s ability to defend itself. Dodd also said he has confidence that the Biden administration will help Taiwan to expand its position in the international community.
