Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng says the government is closely monitoring China’s military exercise in the South China Sea and the surrounding waters. Chiu was speaking Thursday at the Legislature.
Chiu was referring to China’s announcement that it will hold a live-fire exercise from Thursday until next Tuesday. It is generally believed that the war game is a warning to Taiwan following a visit by a delegation of former US officials.
Chiu said the public can rest assured that the military is prepared.
At the same time, the foreign ministry says China has no right to interfere in Taiwan’s interactions with other countries because Taiwan is an independent sovereignty.
