An unofficial delegation made up of former US officials has left Taiwan after a brief visit. The group, led by former US Senator Chris Dodd, was dispatched by US President Joe Biden in a show of continued US support for Taiwan.
The group arrived on Wednesday, meeting with President Tsai Ing-wen, Premier Su Tseng-chang, and Taiwanese lawmakers across party lines before heading back to the US on Friday morning.
The Presidential Office has thanked the Biden administration for its continued support of Taiwan. The office also thanked Biden for sending the delegation to mark the 42nd anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, the law that undergirds the informal US-Taiwan relationship.
President Tsai Ing-wen says she hopes the US-Taiwan partnership will continue to deepen, and that the US and Taiwan will work together to maintain the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
