VIDEO: Hundreds of bees swarm to drink spring water at Changhua temple
Bees found sweet water at a Changhua temple

With a drought still haunting central Taiwan, even the bees are desperately looking for water. A well at a temple in Changhua County recently attracted more of the thirsty insects than usual this spring.

Despite the dry spell in central Taiwan, the spring water well at Qingshuiyan Temple in Changhua county has never dried up. Recently hundreds of bees appeared at the well as if lining up to get a sip of the sweet water. It actually is a common sight around this time of year. But this year, the well has attracted two to three times more the number of bees than past years when there would only be dozens.

Mr. Chen who manages the temple said that the bees generally arrive after Tombsweeping Day in early April because the water is especially tasty around this time of year. Beekeeper Mr. Liang said that bees only like clean, odorless water. Visitors to the temple joked saying that the water should taste sweeter now that the bees have drunk from it. They say it might even be good for their complexions!
