Brands showcase green initiatives on Earth Day
Taiwan’s brands were out in force on Thursday as part of an Earth Day event organized by the Environmental Protection Administration in Taipei.

Taiwan’s brands were out in force on Thursday as part of an Earth Day event organized by the Environmental Protection Administration in Taipei. The event comes amid big changes in consumer habits driven by the COVID-19 pandemic, changes such as a rise in online shopping, food delivery, and food takeout orders.

At a series of stands, the businesses showcase their work to cut back on plastic and reuse resources.

McDonald’s Taiwan highlighted its adoption of sustainable paper for containers, its redesign of cold drink cups, and its elimination of cup lids for certain ice cream desserts. These moves together save around 32 tons of plastic each year.

E-commerce giant MOMO, meanwhile, showcased its reusable packaging, which customers can return to the company by dropping into any postbox.

Meanwhile, popular food delivery service foodpanda highlighted its work to introduce reusable containers in certain parts of Tainan, containers which customers can return at certain drop-off points.
