Lawmakers establish Uyghur caucus
Caucus member and lawmaker Freddy Lim says Taiwan is on the front line against China’s increasing crackdown on people in Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang.

Taiwanese lawmakers are celebrating the launch of a new Uyghur caucus in the country’s legislature. The group currently has thirty members. It marked its establishment with an event in the legislature building on Friday.

Caucus member and lawmaker Freddy Lim says Taiwan is on the front line against China’s increasing crackdown on people in Hong Kong, Tibet, and Xinjiang. He says Taiwan cannot stand idly by. Lim says Taiwan’s new Uyghur caucus will promote Uyghur human rights and join forces with similar caucuses in national legislatures worldwide.

World Uyghur Congress spokesperson Dilxat Raxit has expressed his “most profound gratitude” for the move by Taiwanese lawmakers. He says democratic countries have a duty to speak the truth and stand up for the freedom of others.
