How would you feel if a famous painting from the National Palace Museum was reproduced in a place you could access more easily? The Yilan County government is doing just that.
If you like the famous painting called “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” in the National Palace Museum, then you will probably enjoy a reproduction with a local twist next to the Yilan River.
The Yilan County Government invited art professor Chen Shih-chiang of National Changhua University of Education to reproduce the painting in a bid to boost tourism. Using 6,500 ceramic plates, Chen and his team spent a year making a version of the painting that adds in local, Yilan-specific features. The finished work measures 30 meters.
Yilan County Head Lin Zi-miao was at the work’s unveiling, and she praised Chen for helping to preserve Yilan’s culture and history.
