The foreign ministry says it is preparing medical aid for India which saw a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases and deaths in the past few days.
The ministry has directed Taiwan’s representative office in India to learn about the country’s most pressing medical needs. It has begun to work with medical institutions and other platforms in Taiwan to consolidate resources such as oxygen supplies to speed up humanitarian aid procedures. On Monday alone, close to 353,000 new cases were recorded in India, with more than 2,800 new deaths.
The foreign ministry said that Taiwan’s offices in New Delhi and Chennai have begun contacting overseas Taiwanese in their areas to provide necessary assistance. The ministry said Taiwan is especially concerned about India as it is an important partner in the international community.
