The foreign ministry says that Taiwan will be happy to share its COVID-19 vaccines with its allies once they are fully developed.

That’s as Taiwanese vaccine maker MVC works with partners in the allied South American nation of Paraguay to develop a COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine is now undergoing tests on human subjects in Paraguay. The foreign ministry says it will export the vaccine once it receives emergency authorization and once there is enough of it to supply Taiwan’s own needs.

The foreign ministry also hit back at what it says is China’s use of its own vaccine to expand its influence. The ministry says China wants to use this vaccine diplomacy to pry away Taiwan’s diplomatic allies. However, the ministry says that Taiwan will continue helping Paraguay fight the COVID-19 pandemic, and that Taiwan won’t fall victim to China’s diplomatic extortion.
