President Tsai Ing-wen says the government is confident about its policy of building a sustainable national defense. Tsai was speaking Thursday at a ceremony marking the christening and launching of a patrol boat in the southern port city of Kaohsiung.
The boat is the second of its kind built by CSBC Corporation, Taiwan. Thursday’s ceremony also marked the delivery of the first patrol boat to the Coast Guard Administration.
Tsai said the two patrol boats show that the government is determined to build vessels in Taiwan and to safeguard Taiwan’s territorial waters.
Tsai also said the word “Taiwan” will be clearly marked on the boats, starting this year.
