Taiwanese foster mom reconnects with an Indonesian boy
The Indonesian boy Muhammad Alif Muta'alim and his mother

A Taiwanese foster mother has been able to reconnect with an Indonesian boy and his family after losing contact with them since early March.

The foster mother surnamed Chen lives in the central city of Taichung. She and her husband cared for the 13-month-old baby boy from last October to early March. However, the boy and her Indonesian migrant worker mother then returned to their homeland, and Chen was unable to contact either.

With assistance from RTI’s Indonesian service and the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office to Taipei, the foster mother was able to contact the boy’s Indonesian mother recently by phone and on Facebook.

RTI has a project called “Search for your Second Mother”. It involves a website where people can submit details about a migrant worker that they are hoping to contact. The goal is to help people find the domestic caregivers who were like family to them.
