The foreign ministry on Friday said that Taiwan will continue to cooperate with friendly nations to protect stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
That’s in light of an article in the Economist calling the area around Taiwan the most dangerous place on Earth. The article has a diagram of a radar screen with a Chinese flag to the left, a US flag to the right, and dots indicating both sides’ war ships and planes narrowing in on Taiwan. The article says that a war that breaks out in the Taiwan Strait would be a disaster, and that the US and China should try to avoid conflict.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou said that the US, Japan, the EU, and Australia have all publicly expressed concerns about the situation in the Taiwan Strait.
Ou said China is not just threatening the Taiwan Strait but also the East China Sea, the South China Sea, and Southern Asia. Ou said China’s actions are seriously affecting regional security and the situation in the Taiwan Strait.
