Taiwan is going through its worst drought in decades. Central and southern Taiwan, in particular, are hard-pressed for water. Kaohsiung City in the south has turned to underground wells to replenish one of its most iconic lakes.
This is Chengcing Lake in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan. Just look at that water flow! “Water in a lake? So what?” you’re thinking. But it wasn’t long ago that the lake was drying up.
Taiwan is in the middle of its worst drought in decades, and central and southern Taiwan are the hardest hit. Kaohsiung City officials have resorted to well-digging and rerouting water from the nearby Gaoping River to replenish the lake.
One citizen says he’s not too worried about the water situation, because the government seems to have a handle on it. Another says she’s still going to conserve water.
Still, people’s spirits are lifted now that they see the majestic Chengcing Lake filled with water again. It’s like a tall drink of water on a hot day...but for the eyes.
