Where’s the rain? Expected plum rains surprisingly scarce
Weather officials say that

It’s that time of year again...Plum rain season. Only, it’s not raining as much as people are expecting. Weather officials say an annual high-pressure weather system is veering north this year, meaning storm fronts aren’t quite forming over Taiwan.

It’s the middle of May and the weather is hot, hot, hot! But, wait a second, it should be raining this time of year! The annual “plum rains”' are supposed to be showering all of Taiwan! What’s going on?

Well, weather officials say, there is rain, only not a lot of it, and certainly not as much as expected. They say that an annual high-pressure system is veering to the north this year, preventing storms from forming over Taiwan.

Any rain that does come will be brief and limited to northern and eastern Taiwan. That’s bad news considering Taiwan is going through its worst drought in decades. Officials are forecasting sunny conditions for the rest of the island. Not only that, but it’s going to be hot. Real hot. People are advised to keep their umbrellas on them, though, not because of the rain, but, rather, the scorching sun.
