The education ministry has adopted a raft of measures to keep COVID-19 out of exam halls during an upcoming standardized test for middle school students.

Taiwan’s annual exam for graduating middle school students is set to take place this weekend. And on Wednesday, Deputy Education Minister Tsai Ching-hwa told lawmakers that nine measures will be in place to keep students safe from COVID-19. These include mandating that students wear masks, taking the temperatures of each student, not allowing family members to accompany students, and keeping exam hall windows open to ensure proper ventilation.

Tsai said that rubbing alcohol and sanitizer will also be available for students to use, and that exam hall toilets and sinks will be cleaned more frequently.

Tsai said that unlike during last year’s exam, the English listening section this year will go ahead as scheduled.

Tsai also said that students found to have a fever will be taken to sit their exams in a separate room from the rest of the students.
