Taiwan has once again canceled arrivals and transit for all foreigners without a residence permit, due to a surge in domestic COVID-19 cases.
The new restriction goes into effect on Wednesday, May 19 (starting after midnight on Tuesday night). That time refers to the local time at the location of the departing flight. The rule will remain in effect for one month, through June 18.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung told a press conference on Monday that authorities will monitor the COVID-19 situation in Taiwan and decide whether to adjust the end date for that policy.
Foreigners with a valid Alien Residence Certificate (ARC) or residence visa will be allowed to enter. Health Minister Chen says that exceptions can also be made in the event of an emergency or for humanitarian reasons. He says those will be dealt with on a special case-by-case basis.
