The Ministry of Education said that all classes at schools nationwide will not be held on campus from May 19 to May 28. That includes grades K-12, daycare centers, cram schools, and universities. Schools will move to online learning and there will be no make-up classes in the summer.
The stricter measures are due to 37 COVID-19 cases among students in Taiwan. The students are all contacts of confirmed cases. Of these cases, there are 15 in university, 4 in high school, 6 in junior high, 7 in elementary school and 4 in daycare.
Over half of Taiwan’s counties have seen cases in this recent domestic outbreak.
The education ministry said that teachers may still go to school to conduct their classes online. Students without equipment for online learning can also borrow necessary equipment from their school.
Health officials reminded the public that parents of children 12 and under and of those with disabilities can take disease prevention childcare leave to stay home with their children.
