Taiwan has been ranked the top destination for expats to live in for the third year in a row. That was according to the Expat Insider 2021 Survey, released Tuesday by InterNations, the largest global network for people living abroad.

The poll surveyed over 12,000 people of 174 nationalities in 186 countries and territories. After Taiwan came Mexico, Costa Rica, Malaysia, Portugal, New Zealand, Australia, Ecuador, Canada ,and Vietnam. Kuwait, Italy, and South Africa placed at the bottom of the list.

The survey questions centered around five indices: cost of living, ease of settling in, personal finances, quality of life, and work. Taiwan has scored first in the quality of life category for four years in a row. Taiwan also ranked first in health and well-being.

In the survey, 94 percent and 96 percent of expats respectively appreciated the affordability and quality of Taiwan’s healthcare, and 90 percent were positive about the local transportation network. Taiwan also led the world in the index working abroad. It had high rankings in regards to career prospects and satisfaction, work and leisure, and economy and job security.

The report also said Taiwan was rated as the friendliest country. Taiwan’s safe environment was another strength, as not a single respondent felt personally unsafe in Taiwan, compared to 8% of respondents globally.

Taiwan ranks sixth in cost of living and 11th in personal finance.
