COVID-19: Taiwan records 295 new cases and 15th fatality
Taiwan recorded 295 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Of these cases, 286 are domestic in origin.

Taiwan recorded 295 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday.

Of these cases, 286 are domestic in origin. These new domestic cases are concentrated in New Taipei and Taipei, but smaller numbers of new cases have also been confirmed in Taoyuan, Yilan County, Changhua County, Keelung, Kaohsiung, Taichung, and Hsinchu City.

The remaining nine new cases are imported.

Altogether, Thursday’s new cases bring the total number of COVID-19 cases Taiwan has recorded since the start of the pandemic up to 2,825.

In addition, health authorities announced Thursday that Taiwan has seen its fifteenth COVID-related death so far. The deceased was a woman in her 70’s who worked in an area of Taipei that has seen one of the worst outbreaks so far. She is known to have had a cardiovascular condition.

She began feeling unwell on May 15, but did not seek medical attention. She was later placed on a list of people that must get tested for COVID-19, and police were sent to her home after health authorities found themselves unable to contact her. There, they found her dead on May 17.
