The Central Epidemic Command Center has announced daily national meetings to coordinate medical resources, review progress in disease prevention, and crack down on misinformation.

Officials from Taiwan’s 22 counties and special municipalities were invited to join the first such meeting on Thursday. The decision to hold these daily meetings came a day after the government raised its COVID-19 alert level to Level 3 nationwide due to a spike in domestically-transmitted infections.

Interior Minister Chen Tsung-yen, command center’s deputy head, said that local governments must set up testing sites in hot zones quickly. To prevent any cases from slipping through the net, all infected people must be sent to quarantine facilities or hospitals within six hours after their test results come back positive.

Chen said the central government will draw up standardized procedures for testing and medical care, and coordinate the distribution of medical supplies such as testing kits. He said local governments are authorized to release information concerning the recent activity of confirmed patients.

Meanwhile, both the central government and local authorities have agreed that medical workers have the priority to get vaccinated.
