US President Joe Biden and South Korean President Moon Jae-in are saying they will work closely to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait. The two heads of state were meeting at the White House on May 21 when they agreed to cooperate more closely to maintain peace in the Taiwan Strait.
US Pentagon Spokesperson John Kirby said on Tuesday that the United States’ policy towards Taiwan remains unchanged.
Kirby said that the US does not want to see any unilateral change in the status quo across the Taiwan Strait. He also said that the US will continue to assist Taiwan in its self defense in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act, the Three Communiques and the Six Assurances, which are guidelines outlining Taiwan-US relations in the absence of official ties between the two sides.
