COVID-19: Taiwan reports 401 new domestic cases, 266 backlogged

Taiwan reported 401 new domestic cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, along with four imported cases. The vast majority of the cases continue to be in the greater Taipei area in northern Taiwan.

The country also reported thirteen more deaths from the virus, bringing the death toll from the beginning of the pandemic to 59. The deceased include nine men and four women. At least eight of them had pre-existing conditions. 
 
The Central Epidemic Command Center also reported an additional 266 backlogged cases for days earlier in the week. 

The newly adjusted daily totals from the past two weeks are as follows:

Of the 401 new local cases announced on Monday, 190 were men and 211 were women. They began experiencing symptoms between April 26 and May 26.

Of the 266 backlogged cases added to daily totals on Thursday, 140 were men and 126 were women. They began experiencing symptoms between May 15 and May 26. Here is the breakdown by city/county:

As for the source of the 667 local cases announced on Thursday (including backlogged cases), 152 had a travel history in Taipei’s Wanhua District. Another 25 cases are connected to tea parlors (adult entertainment venues), and six to a Lion’s Club cluster. A specific source of transmission is known for 222 cases, the source is unknown for 145, and 117 cases are still under investigation. 

Taiwan also recorded five imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. They include two travelers from India and two from the Philippines.
