Taiwan reported 372 new domestic cases of COVID-19, along with 177 backlogged cases for a total of 549 cases on Wednesday. There were also twelve deaths reported.

Central Epidemic Command Center Director Chen Shih-chung said that two-thirds of the backlogged cases have been reported.

The center also said it was working with local governments on crowd control at traditional markets, as some cases have been connected to the markets.

The 372 new local cases contracted the disease between May 2 - June 1, while the 177 backlogged cases contracted the virus between May 13 - 30.

Of the twelve deaths reported, seven were men and five were women. The patients were all aged 60 and over, displayed symptoms between May 13-29, and died between May 28-June 1.

The cases announced on Wednesday by city and county are as follows:

New Taipei City: 310

Taipei City: 152

Taoyuan City: 28

Keelung City: 18

Miaoli County: 12

Changhua County: 10

Kaohsiung City: 5

Taitung: 4

Taichung City: 3

Hsinchu County: 2

Tainan City: 2

Hsinchu City: 1

Hualien County: 1

Of the 87 cases outside of Greater Taipei, one had visited Taipei’s Wanhua District. A specific source of transmission is known for 65 of these cases, the source is unknown for 21, and the rest of the cases are still under investigation.

The center said Taiwan is also preparing for a mass vaccination program once it receives vaccines in late June. Once people are vaccinated, they will receive a card, and their vaccinations will also be recorded on their health insurance cards.
