COVID-19: Taiwan reports 339 new domestic cases, 133 backlogged

Taiwan reported 339 new domestic cases of COVID-19 on Friday, along with two imported cases. The vast majority of the cases continue to be in the greater Taipei area in northern Taiwan.

The country also reported 21 more deaths from the virus, bringing the death toll from the beginning of the pandemic to 187. The deceased include 14 men and seven women. All but one had underlying health conditions.
 
The Central Epidemic Command Center also reported an additional 133 backlogged cases for days in the past two weeks. 

Of the 339 new local cases announced on Friday, 170 were men and 169 were women. They began experiencing symptoms between April 1 and June 3.
Of the 133 backlogged cases added to daily totals on Friday, 57 were men and 76 were women. They began experiencing symptoms between May 18 and June 2.

For all the domestic and backlogged cases on Friday, the totals (by city/county) are as follows:

As for the source of the 472 local cases announced on Friday (including backlogged cases), 379 had a travel history to Taipei or New Taipei City. Of the remaining 93 cases, one had a travel history in Taipei’s Wanhua District, a specific source of transmission is known for another 76 cases, the source is unknown for 14, and two cases are still under investigation. 

Taiwan also recorded two imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. They include one traveler from Vietnam and one from Indonesia.
