Foreign Minister Joseph Wu says Taiwan is on the front lines of a global ideological struggle between democracy and authoritarianism. His words on Thursday came during an international press conference with the title “The Alignment of the Taiwan-Japan Partnership in the Face of Modern Challenges”.
Wu says recent years have seen big changes in the international community. He says the strategic competition and antagonism between democratic countries and authoritarian regimes has grown clearer by the day. Wu says this trend has accelerated since the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic. He says China has seized the opportunity to forcibly bring other countries into its political framework.
Wu says Taiwan is not only a reliable global partner, but a positive force in the ongoing struggle to keep the Indo-Pacific region free and open to the rest of the world. He says Taiwan is a responsible member of the international community and has the resolve and ability to preserve regional peace and stability.
