A chip manufacturer in northern Taiwan’s Miaoli County reported Thursday that 51 of its employees have tested positive for COVID-19. Of the 51, 48 are foreign migrant workers.
The company King Yuan Electronics Corp. says that those who tested positive are in quarantine. The factory’s chairman, Li Chin-kung said that the company will strengthen epidemic prevention measures, including prohibiting migrant workers from leaving their dormitories. Li also said that all employees will be split into teams to limit contact between them.
Li said shutting down the factory would be too difficult, with orders for chips continuing to come in. Li said that suspending operations would affect the planning and management of both international and domestic production.
As of noon on Friday, more than 1,900 of the factory’s 7,000 employees have undergone rapid screening for COVID-19.
