Schools in Taiwan will stay online through the end of the current school year, on July 2. Education Minister Pan Wen-chung gave details at a press conference on Monday afternoon
The education minister says that some 430 students have been infected with COVID-19 in Taiwan to date. The decision to continue online classes is in line with the government’s announcement on Monday that nationwide Level 3 restrictions will continue through June 28.
The decision to cancel in-person classes through July 2 applies to schools at all levels, including kindergartens and cram schools. Pan says that parents are still allowed to take time off from work if they have a child aged 12 or under, or a child with a disability.
Meanwhile, officials have postponed the national university entrance exams. The exams were originally scheduled for early July, but they will now take place on July 28-30.
Minister Pan says they will limit the number of test takers to 20 per examination room, spread out at a distance of at least 1.5 meters. Exam proctors will be given priority for vaccination.
