VIDEO: Rare wildlife spotted on Wuling Farm
Several wildlife animals have been spotted recently at Wuling Farm in central Taiwan.

Several wildlife animals have been spotted recently at Wuling Farm in central Taiwan, including a protected species called the Formosan Serow.

Wuling Farm is closed to the public from May 20 to June 28 under the Level 3 Alert for COVID-19. Some said perhaps since there are no visitors, wildlife have been able to roam freely in the area.

On Wuling Farm, a Formosan Serow was running across an observation deck, which was a pleasant surprise for workers there. The animal, endemic to Taiwan, is the biggest protected species of the wildlife bovine family. It’s about 5 or 6 times bigger than Reeve's muntjac.

Farm director Hu Fa-tao says the animal used to be found only in the high mountains, but now they can be seen in the valleys too.

Besides Formosan Serow, there have been other rarely seen animals too, such as the crested serpent-eagle and swinhoe’s pheasant.

Hu called the phenomenon an ecological surprise since the farm closed on May 20.

Wuling Farm also has seen the beautiful hydrangea grow to 80 centimeters long.  And thanks to the Plum Rain season, its waterfall there is as spectacular as ever.
