The opposition Kuomintang (KMT) on Tuesday suggested that the Taiwan government provide NT$10,000 (US$360) for every Taiwanese citizen as part of COVID-19 relief efforts. That’s after the Legislature held an extraordinary session on Monday to review the special budget plan for COVID-19 relief measures. The KMT cited the example of the US, Japan and Singapore.
Meanwhile, the Council for Industrial and Commercial Development said that the
tourism, hospitality and catering industries have been greatly affected by the pandemic. It suggested that the government increase subsidies for employees in those fields. It also asked for those who head industrial and commercial enterprises, and those who work in exports to be placed on priority for COVID-19 vaccination.
The Cultural Creativity Sightseeing Development Association also suggested that the government raise the subsidy ceiling to NT20,000 (US$720) for each employee of enterprises with declining sales. It also said that the government should remove the restriction that says companies with unpaid leave programs cannot receive relief benefits.
