Japan may donate more vaccines to Taiwan. That’s the word from Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Japan’s first donation of 1.24 million doses of AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccines arrived in early June. On Tuesday, senior citizens aged 85 and older began receiving the AZ vaccines islandwide.

Toshimitsu said Japan will donate one million doses of AZ vaccines to Vietnam Wednesday and is considering giving away more vaccines to Taiwan and Vietnam in the future. Toshimitsu also said Japan is planning to donate AZ vaccines to Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Malaysia in early July.

Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Joanne Ou said on Tuesday the government hopes that the vaccines will arrive in Taiwan soon.
