Taiwan reported 127 new domestic cases of COVID-19, one imported case, and 20 deaths on Saturday.
The addition of 20 more deaths from the virus brings the death toll from the beginning of the pandemic to 538. The deceased include 10 men and 10 women, with the youngest patients in their fifties. They contracted the disease between May 13 - June 12 and died between June 10 - 16.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says that case numbers have been going down which shows that the outbreak is under control. But he says the public should not let its guard down as the virus could easily spread if people are not careful.
Of the 127 new local cases announced on Saturday, 60 were men and 67 were women. They began experiencing symptoms between June 3 and June 18.
The Saturday totals by city and county are as follows:
New Taipei City: 81
Taipei City: 30
Taoyuan City: 8
Hsinchu County: 3
Hsinchu City: 2
Keelung City: 2
Taichung City: 1
A specific source of transmission is known for 12 out of the 16 cases outside of the Greater Taipei area, while the source of the remaining four are unknown.
Taiwan's one imported case on Saturday is a male teenager who returned from India.
Of the 12,385 cases confirmed between May 11 and June 17, 58% have recovered and have been released from isolation.
The Central Epidemic Command Center also reports that 49 people have died following an AstraZeneca COVID-19 jab. The CECC says that's out of more than 1.2 million people who have received the AZ vaccine. Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says authorities have not yet to link the fatalities to the vaccine.
